A new chapter

It is the start of a new year, and the time has come for gratitude, for reflection, for looking ahead. It's like the start of a new chapter, and in some small way, God allows us to participate in determining what it will hold --what we will do, where we will go. He, of course, can already see into the future to know what will happen, and is already working to use what happens for good in our lives.

It's a time for gratitude, to think back on what God has done in 2013, and to be grateful for his hand on our lives. To thank him with joy for the blessings he has showered upon us, and to thank him with a different kind of joy for his staying hand as he has brought us through trials we never dreamed we could have survived.

It's a time for reflection, to consider who we are as a person, and whether we are who we want to be. To consider our walk with God, and whether we are walking as we want to be. God calls each one of us to constantly strive to deepen our relationship with Him as we walk the long road of life. He is always there right beside us - often, we just need to reach out and take His hand.

And it's a time for looking ahead. A time to consider the steps we can or need to take to get where we want to go in the next chapter of our lives. A time to grasp God's hand a little firmer, say "God, I know you're worthy of my all," and to step out into the deep unknown. Like Abraham, who, being called to go out into the land he should afterward receive for an inheritance, obeyed, and he went out, not knowing where he was being led. Hebrews 11:8.

What are you grateful for this year? Are you who you want to be as a person? Are you walking with God daily? Where is God calling you to step out on a limb this year? Is your God worthy enough for you to follow him, though His plan for you may lead you to the cross? Mine is.

- Isaac
